The rumours are true, SBC Wakeboard is back and ready to kick off the season with a new editor at the wheel.
As many know last July, when SBC Media filed for bankruptcy the Canadian action sports industry felt a sudden void and was left with asking “what’s next for us?” In September, The C.J Group of companies, secured and purchased all of the SBC Media titles. The C.J. Group of Companies is one of the largest and most successful privately-owned media communications and graphics solutions firms in Canada with significant resources, experience in, and a passion for action sports. It plans to build on the well-established, market-leading audience reach of the SBC Media brands with further investment in digital growth via online, social media and digital editions.
With the new young team selected for the winter titles, SBC Wakeboard is stoked to announce that Melissa Kurtin will be the new editor. Melissa is one of the driving forces in the Ontario Wakeboard scene, and with her strong background in media and event management partnered with her passion and drive, you can believe that we will get a new angle for SBC Wakeboard.
“I really want to understand what our readers want. You can look at all the traditional content on any sport specific site, so what will set us apart? We have a lot of hidden talent that might not get the opportunity to showcase what they can do, I want to fill the magazine with Canadian talent from grassroots to established veterans.” said Melissa. “After having a summer without SBC Wakeboard, I think we all realized how import a Canadian specific wakeboard magazine is to our sport. There were a lot of milestones that didn’t get the recognition and coverage they deserved.”
The first issue will be out this fall, and like the sister titles of Snowboard Canada, Skier, Surf and Skate, “The goal is to give contributors a platform to tell their story in their own voice and through their own lens” The C.J. Group will continue to offer advertising partners and riders the most exciting, engaging and progressive Canadian media content in action sports lifestyle.
